"I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it is because in addition to the fact that the sea changes and the light changes, and ships change, it is because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it we are going back from whence we came." President John F. Kennedy, Newport, Rhode Island; September 14, 1962
Chris & Karen began sailing Hobie Cats and then progressed into blue water sailing chartering larger vessels for trips through the Florida Keys, Belize, Central America, Gulf crossings to the Bahamas and adventures to the outer-islands that make up the Exuma chain in the Caribbean. They are continuing their journey by exploring the U.S. & British Virgin Islands and want to provide families with the opportunity to charter Reposado while she is in the Virgin Islands. Unfortunately, Chris & Karen's first 450 was completely destroyed by Irma, the category 5 hurricane that devastated the BVIs in Sept, 2017; however, their new yacht, Reposado II is located in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
Reposado is a 2019 Lagoon 450 F configured in the three-cabin/three-head owner’s version in which the main stateroom, which spans the entire starboard hull, is essentially an apartment that can be closed off from the rest of the yacht for privacy. This starboard state room is complete with a huge aft berth, a small office, a large suite head with separate shower compartment (as does all the quarters), and an abundance of closet and storage space. The 450 F is a large boat. (Length: 45’ 10”; Width: 25’; LWL: 43'11"; Beam: 25'9"; Draft: 4'3"; Sail Area: 1,442 sq.ft.). The 450 F is a very functional catamaran. Stepping into the saloon reveals a huge space for a mid-sized catamaran and the benefits of the blunt exterior are apparent in the upright coach roof bulkheads. These not only add volume but also keep out the sun. The Lagoon 450F has come to be seen as a benchmark intercontinental sailing vessel.
Sun rise at a very tranquil anchorage
We plotted a course heading from St. John through the Pillsbury Sound to St. Thomas
We moored in this peaceful bay on August 13, 2021 ... the night before then tropical storm Grace (which became Hurricane Grace) chased us from this point in St. John to the marina in St. Thomas USVI.
Moored at Christmas Cove known for it snorkeling and the sailboat Restraunt Pizza PI VI ... https://pizza-pi.com/
We found a wonderfully deserted beach and decided to have a closer look
Sailing south on a heading from Virgin Gorda Sound to Tortola. The water is beautiful.
This video illustrates the force of the wind while on a close hauled/close reach with one reef in the main and 2/3 of the Genoa out in 17 knots of wind with 23 knot gusts. Our speed over ground last week ranged from a comfortable 6.5 knots to 12.5 knots. As you may know, the Lagoon 450 is well known for its capability to sail in low wind and down wind. We also realized the 450's ability to provide a stable and comfortable experience.
We realize exceptionally good wind in the Virgin islands. The sailing between Necker Island and Anegada is awesome Sailing with the wind on our beam, one reef in the main, and a full genoa we leave Virgin Gorda on our port in route to Marina Cay.
Heading South - Origin: Hodges Creek Marina; Destination: The Indians and Norman Cay.
Test sail on the Topaz. 18 Knots of wind w/23 knot gusts, 3.5 ft of swell
Low wind day, but always great to be out on the Chesapeake Bay
Returning to Pier 7 sailing downwind with the main and an Asymmetrical Spinnaker
Pelicans fishing in the Virgin Islands
Inspecting Reposado's bottom with our resident barracuda. He has a nice smile, a complex disposition, but he is approachable.
During our last visit our mooring placed us at Prickly Pear Island right beside the Sandbox restaurant and we spent quality time swimming with the sea turtles at Oil Nut Bay.
